- computer repair
- integration of stable software
- data backups

|
Overview:
Reliable & Responsible Dispatch Services is a single computer
business that provides specialized transportation services. The main
function of their computer is accounting and contact management.
When we first began working with R&R, their existing equipment
and software required extensive maintenance and support. The goal
was to simplify the overall use and maintenance.
We assessed the immediate needs of the business and made a plan to
allow the migration away from outdated unstable software to a new
standardized package. This was accomplished with no downtime and no
new hardware purchases. Focused user training provided the user all
the required information on the new software with very little learning
curve. |

stable workstations

- created centralized file structure
- installed virus scanners
|
Overview:
Landmark Agencies is a 6 computer business that manages rental properties.
Their computer use includes file sharing, printer sharing and managing
their business using their property management software.
When we first starting working with Landmark there were several
needs identified.
- To move from dial-up to high speed Internet access
- Upgrade the existing operating sytem from Windows 98 to a more
stable platform of Windows XP
- Implement a comprehensive backup strategy to avoid data loss in
the event of a computer failure.
Our strategy was to upgrade the network one system at a time as
the budget and time allowed. We created a centralized filing system
to allow for more logical file storage and easier backups. Easier
backups lead to more frequent backups. eTrust anti-virus was deployed
on all the workstations to protect against viruses. User training
and education was important during the entire process to keep the
users within their computer knowledge comfort zone.

Client:
MSOS (Manitoba Society of Seniors)
Services:
- 12 computer network
- Various hardware problems, no standardized operating system
- Upgraded existing hardware, kept within a budget
-Traied an onsite tech person to provide fast solutions to the easier
problems
|
Overview:
Manitoba Society of Seniors has 12 workstations and a server on
their network. MSOS promotes a positive image of older adults and
organizes active living programs. Their needs include printer sharing
and complex centralized file sharing.
The main areas of fucus when we began work were:
- The need to replace Windows 98 on all their workstations with
a single standardized operating system, Windows XP
- Documenting the network configuration
- Replacing older workstations that could not be upgraded
- Ensuring proper backups were being completed
Work started with an analysis of the existing workstation hardware
and how much could be upgraded to Windows XP. During a single work
session outside of business hours we were able to perform all the
necessary hardware and software upgrades to the workstations. The
new operating system worked in conjunction with the Windows Server
to allow “roaming profiles”. This allows the users computer
“profile” to follow them to any workstation they use.
It also makes a backup of a user’s local document and desktop
items, an important part of backing up the network. eTrust anti-virus
was deployed on all the workstations and server to protect against
viruses. We worked with a very technically knowledgeable staff member
to ensure that everything would be configured in the easiest possible
way for use and for support.
